Corinthians sack four youth staff, director responds

Having faced a severe financial crisis for several seasons, Corinthians has been making budget cuts in some departments. This Tuesday (18), the club from Parque São Jorge dismissed four employees who worked in its youth divisions. The information was initially reported by journalist Pedro Ramiro from Record.

Those dismissed were: Renato Barros (U-20 goalkeeping coach), Claudinei Muza (general manager hired at the beginning of the ousted president Augusto Melo’s administration), Thiago Poletti (department supervisor), and Matheus, last name not disclosed. According to Meu Timão, he was responsible for the administrative area and, consequently, the contracts.

On his social media, goalkeeping coach Renato Barros bid farewell to Corinthians: “Today another cycle comes to an end. I thank all my friends and colleagues for the respect and consideration during this time in which I dedicated myself with commitment, willpower, and professionalism. I say goodbye in peace and tranquility, grateful to have been part of this club. Thank you, Corinthians.”

Carlos Roberto Aurrichio, the general manager of Corinthians’ youth academy, appointed at the start of Osmar Stabile’s administration, gave an exclusive interview to Rádio Coringão and commented on the departures, emphasizing that these are part of a cost-cutting process.

“This restructuring is really for saving money. For now, there are no plans to bring in new professionals. So, we received orders from above to make savings. They gave us some numbers and we’re figuring out what to do. It’s an awkward situation, these are great professionals leaving, really top-tier. But unfortunately, it’s come to this.”

In addition to staff cuts, Corinthians has also undergone a major overhaul in player departures in recent months, many of whom were signed during the former president Augusto Melo’s administration (87 just for the U-17 and U-20 categories), and who rarely played for the club.

Initially, priority was given to cases where there was no need to pay a termination fee, and later to those with professional contracts. These were approached to terminate the contract amicably, avoiding financial losses for the institution.
