Corinthians seek to extend lead over Santos in Brasileirão clash

On Wednesday night, October 15, at 9:30 p.m. (Brasília time), Corinthians visit Santos at Vila Belmiro in a derby valid for the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship. The club from Parque São Jorge sits 12th with 33 points (eight wins, nine draws and 10 losses – 29 goals scored and 32 conceded).

The first clash between Corinthians and Santos took place on June 22, 1913, in the Paulista Championship, at the Palestra Itália Stadium (now Allianz Parque), and ended with a Santos win, 6–3. Since then, there have been 354 matches between the teams, with 140 Corinthians victories, 102 draws and 112 defeats. In addition, there have been 608 goals for the Alvinegro and 520 for the rival.

On the Corinthians side, the top scorer in the history of the matchup is former midfielder Neco, who played for Corinthians from October 1913 to August 1930, with 21 goals scored in 23 matches against Santos. In total, for the club from Parque São Jorge, he scored 242 goals in 297 matches, in addition to eight titles won: Paulista Championship (1914, 1916, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1928 and 1930) and the Taça Competência (1922).

Considering only the Brazilian Championship, Corinthians and Santos have faced each other 77 times, with the advantage also favoring Corinthians. In total, there are 27 wins, 25 draws and 25 losses – 93 goals scored and 90 conceded. In national league matches, the Alvinegro have not lost to Santos since the 2020 edition, when they were defeated 1–0 at Vila Belmiro. Since then, there have been seven games, with four wins and three draws – seven goals scored and only one conceded.

In the 2025 season, the Alvinegro derby has already happened three times, with Corinthians winning all of them. In the Paulista Championship group stage, the Alvinegro won 2–1. In the state semifinal, the scoreline was repeated. Finally, in the first round of the Brasileirão, the Corinthians side won 1–0. All the games mentioned above took place at the Neo Química Arena.
