Corinthians missed the chance to close on the G5 after a 1-1 draw at Bahia ended round 20 on Sunday night. According to Meu Timao, the stalemate, combined with other results, left Fernando Diniz’s side ninth.
They began the round seventh on 27 points, within sight of the G5 that offers a 2027 Libertadores berth. To press the case, they needed to win by at least two and erase a four-goal deficit in goal difference to Red Bull Bragantino, as well as a shortfall of two wins.
The draw triggered a two-place drop after Botafogo beat Cruzeiro and Atlético-MG defeated Palmeiras. Now on 28 points, Corinthians are level with Atlético-MG but trail on goal difference, while the gap to the G5 remains three points.
Below them, Coritiba and Cruzeiro have 27 points. São Paulo and Vitória sit on 26 as the Copa Sudamericana race stays tight.
Santos and Grêmio are on 22, one more than 16th-placed Internacional on 21. In the relegation zone, Vasco and Remo have 21, Mirassol 20, and Chapecoense prop up the table with 10.
At the summit, Palmeiras lead on 44 points, with Flamengo on 38, Athletico-PR 36 and Fluminense completing the top four on 33. Corinthians host Athletico-PR on Thursday 30 at 19:30 at Neo Química Arena in round 21.
