Corinthians striker celebrates win, targets Libertadores title

On the afternoon of this Saturday, the 11th, Corinthians took the field again for the Women’s Copa Libertadores. In a match played at the Estadio Nuevo Francisco Urbano, in Morón, Argentina, the Brabas faced Boca Juniors-ARG in the quarterfinals of the continental tournament and won convincingly, 4–0. The goals were scored by Gabi Zanotti (three) and Johnson.

After the match, the game’s top scorer spoke to the press in the mixed zone, showing satisfaction with the performance. Zanotti highlighted the players’ preparation for the decisive clash against the Argentinians, who were playing at home.

“I think we came prepared for a war, we knew we were facing the home team. As I’ve said, I had a very solid defense, and I think we were very happy. We knew how to play intelligently; I think that was the big difference in the match. We managed to be more effective, improved some things, made some technical adjustments.”

The number 10 continued. “I think the team behaved very well for the full 90 minutes; those who came on helped us a lot. I think everyone was very important in this match, regardless of whether I scored three goals or not. I think it was a great collective team performance,” she said.

Another topic was the Libertadores scoring race, which the forward took the lead in with her hat-trick against Boca Juniors: “I’m very happy. I think things happen naturally. I always say my main goal here is to be a champion; nothing would be more important. And this year is even more special because it grants a spot to play in the Club World Cup with Corinthians. I think the goals will come naturally. I’m very happy to be able to help the team with these efforts.”

Finally, Zanotti emphasized the importance of the preparation she does to keep performing at a high level for the Brabas. “I think it’s dedication. We know an athlete’s career is sometimes short, but if you dedicate yourself, if you give up many things to truly live your dreams and be an athlete, you can, today, with all the resources we have in medicine and in sports, manage all of this. I think that ends up giving us this longevity in sports,” she concluded.
