Corinthians supporters protested outside Parque São Jorge on Monday evening as the Deliberative Council voted to expel former president Augusto Melo from the club’s membership.

As reported by Meu Timao, the gathering was set for 16:00 and later grew under police oversight, with private security placing barriers at the social club entrance.

Protest banners attacked former leaders, branding Augusto Melo a traitor and an adventurer and calling for his expulsion. He was shown alongside Andrés Sanchez and Duilio Monteiro Alves, who had given up associate status, with the trio likened to rats and demands for pest control at Parque São Jorge.

After a brief message from Alex da Matta, press officer for Gaviões da Fiel, supporters chanted for Melo’s removal to familiar Corinthians songs. When the result was announced around 21:00, fireworks and loud celebrations followed.

Melo had been investigated by the Ethics and Discipline Commission over the 31 May 2025 invasion of Parque São Jorge by supporters linked to him. He had been removed on a provisional basis days earlier.

On 9 August 2025, a group led by Maria Angela de Sousa Ocampos, first secretary of the council, tried to annul his impeachment by declaring herself president. In commission hearings, Melo said he had no prior knowledge, while allies cited a document they believed could return him to office. Interim chief Osmar Stabile described the move as a threat to the democratic rule of law.

A further 11 councillors are under investigation by the Ethics and Discipline Commission, with votes to be held on dates set by Pantaleão. Two, Mário Mello Júnior and Ronaldo Fernandez Tomé, sit on the commission, and alternates have been named should suspensions occur.

The commission recommended preventive suspension citing a concrete institutional risk, but the notice was advisory only and all remain in post.
