Wagner Leonardo could be in his final days at Grêmio, with Corinthians exploring a deal as he loses ground under Luís Castro.
According to Globo.com, Corinthians asked to take the centre-back on loan but Grêmio initially refused, and two club sources said he remains in the staff’s plans and will stay in Porto Alegre.
On Sunday he was on the bench against Mirassol.
Castro started Wallace, a recent arrival who is right-footed and prefers the right side, instead of the left-footed Wagner Leonardo.
Talks with Corinthians are not ruled out despite the São Paulo club being under two transfer bans, and discussions could progress this window if a model suits both sides.
The window closes on 2 September.
Grêmio favour a permanent sale to raise funds, as they owe Vitória from the 2025 purchase, and a player exchange has been considered.
A recent attempt to involve the defender in talks with Vitória collapsed over payment terms.
Wagner Leonardo has missed the last three matches, his most recent outing the 3-2 defeat at Bolívar in the first leg of the Sudamericana play-offs in La Paz.
He has 19 appearances and one goal this year, with a contract until 2028.
Any exit also hinges on Grêmio signing a left-sided centre-back capable of starting, with veteran Kannemann currently holding the role.
Approaches for Argentines Matías Moreno and Nicolás Valentini, both at Fiorentina, Italy, did not progress.
