Corinthians are weighing up disciplining midfielder André Luiz after his dismissal for an obscene gesture in Sunday’s derby with Palmeiras, according to Meu Timao.

At 35 minutes of the first half, Palmeiras players protested when André appeared to place his right hand on his genital area. Following a VAR review, referee Flávio Rodrigues de Souza showed a straight red, judging it an obscene act aimed at an opponent.

Inside the club, it is noted that André is considered exemplary day to day, but Corinthians say their code of conduct must be upheld.

The sanction is expected to mirror Allan’s case from two weeks ago, when he was sent off for the same offence, which would mean a 10% wage deduction this month for André Luiz.

After the match, goalkeeper Hugo Souza defended André in the mixed zone, highlighting his usually controversy-free behaviour. Right-back Matheuzinho was also sent off, leaving both players sidelined.

André remains available for Wednesday’s Copa Libertadores tie and is preparing with the squad. Kick-off against Colombia’s Independiente Santa Fe is at 21:30 at Neo Química Arena.
