Corinthians to pay around R$ 7.5m to Dorival Júnior after sacking | OneFootball

Corinthians have sacked Dorival Júnior eight months before his deal was due to expire, following Sunday’s defeat to Internacional at the Neo Química Arena that stretched their winless run to nine matches.

According to Meu Timao, the severance package is around R$ 7.5 million. It covers the early-termination clause through to the end of the season and other outstanding sums owed to the coach.

Executive football director Marcelo Paz said the call was made with president Osmar Stabile after an internal review concluded the work had reached its limit and there was no longer scope for technical progress.

Dorival arrived at Parque São Jorge in April 2025, replacing Ramón Díaz’s staff, with Díaz having won the Paulista title that season. Under Dorival, Corinthians recorded 25 wins, 19 draws and 19 defeats, a 50% return, with 67 goals scored and 56 conceded. In three matches, assistant Lucas Silvestre oversaw one victory and two losses.

Despite recent inconsistency, he departs with two trophies, the 2025 Copa do Brasil against Vasco da Gama, ending a national drought dating back to 2017, and this season’s Supercopa Rei after a 2-0 win over Flamengo.

The club now turn their attention to appointing a successor amid a congested April schedule. The board have identified Fernando Diniz as the priority, with former boss Sylvinho as plan B.

The next assignment is on Thursday at 21:00 against Platense in Buenos Aires, the opening match of their Copa Libertadores group stage.
