Corinthians vice-president’s defence renews bid to remove prosecutor in Nike kit case | OneFootball

Armando Mendonça’s defence has filed a fresh motion to have prosecutor Cassio Conserino declared suspect and removed from the probe into missing Nike kit from storerooms at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava and Parque São Jorge.

According to Meu Timao, Conserino replied on 18 July rejecting recusal as legally, factually and morally weak, adding he is not a social member, only in Fiel Torcedor, and has had no contact with those investigated.

The defence says he dodged the core grounds and relied on rhetoric, and that impartiality concerns stem from public interventions in club politics and the clustering of Corinthians matters under him.

It also argues he was meant to act with the natural prosecutor but took sole control, and that a parallel inquiry ran without prior notice despite an existing police probe before the Guarantees Court.

The lawyers add they used only public Instagram images to evidence frequent Corinthians-related posts, not to expose relatives, and they regret any discomfort while denying any privacy breach.

Minutes later, Conserino sought to remove images of his six-year-old son and wife, arguing they are irrelevant and that exposing a minor breaches the Child and Adolescent Statute and could bring civil liability.

Mendonça is charged with aggravated and continued embezzlement, attempted aggravated embezzlement, aggravated theft by abuse of trust, and coercion during proceedings, over alleged misappropriation of 131 items and intimidation of audit staff. Precautionary bans were refused, and he denies all accusations. The defence again asked for the recusal to be processed and granted.
