Corinthians Women’s coach hails win, looks ahead to Santos derby

On the afternoon of Wednesday, 17th, Corinthians returned to the field for the first time after winning their seventh Brazilian Women's Championship title. The Brabas hosted Juventude in a match valid for the round of 16 of the Brazil Cup. The knockout stage, which is played in a single match, ended with a score of 3 x 0 for Timão, with goals from Vic Albuquerque, Ariel Godoi, and Gisela Robledo.

After the match, coach Lucas Piccinato spoke to the press in the mixed zone, where he praised the team's performance, even though they were worn out after the Brasileirão final played just three days earlier. "The hunger of this team stands out. We had a very mentally heavy week, so it's hard to come out of a final and 72 hours later, we're playing another game of this weight. We opted for players who hadn't played a high minute count", he explained.

The coach said that, although technically the team made mistakes in his view, the "hunger" shown was positive: "At no point did we relax in the game. The end maybe a little more, but maybe even because of the shock we suffered there. We were very scared by the overall situation, but again, very happy with the important result. We know that the next phase will be a very heavy phase and we have to prepare for each game we have ahead."

Piccinato also took the opportunity to project the next game of the Brabas, the classic against Santos for the Paulista. "It's a team that must have been working on us for some time. We have to go in with a good mindset, understand that the Brasileirão has passed and that we need to build our history in both competitions. It's a very physical team and we're going to have to play our best game to come out of here with the victory and the points that today put us in first place in the Paulista", he concluded.

The next game of the Brabas takes place next Saturday, the 20th, for the ninth round of the Women's Paulistão. Corinthians faces Santos at Fazendinha, starting at 11am (Brasília time), and tickets are already on sale.
