Corinthians women’s coach urges focus on Paulistão, discusses ongoing plans

On the morning of this Saturday, November 1st, Corinthians took to the field to face São Paulo at Fazendinha, in a match valid for the 10th round of the Women's Paulista Championship. Lucas Piccinato spoke about the result, against a season nemesis, and hinted at the planning for 2026.

“Happy with the game, happy with the victory. An important victory in the competition. Obviously, we have to plan for next year, but we can't help but be 100% focused on this sequence of classics ahead of us. So, very happy about that. We made some adjustments, especially in the defensive aspect. Today we didn't press São Paulo as much as we did in other games, and this was a choice to try to preserve ourselves physically as well”“, the coach began in the mixed zone.

Next, the coach of the Brabas explained the strategy for the Majestic classic, also considering the match time: “So, we stayed more in a medium block and a low block, because we understand it's a tiring game, at this time, and without having the full squad. By my decision, the idea was to let São Paulo have the ball a bit more, especially with the central defender.”

“I think this preserved us a lot, because we ran a little less. Obviously, a qualified team like São Paulo will create situations, as they did, but I think we were very secure, and this gave us the conditions, offensively, to be prepared to create our options,” he continued.

The match ended with a score of 3-1 for Timão, with goals from Jhonson, Tamires, and Thaís Regina. Despite the possibility of winning another title this season, the team is already studying the 2026 season, which will feature the Champions Cup.

“Regarding all the planning for 2026, it is already being very well studied, very planned. Some possibilities for us to have a great pre-season, mainly. We know that the dates are a bit close to each other.”

“We have a very short vacation period for the players, but we will certainly try to make the best possible planning so that even when the teams are, everyone on vacation, probably the teams will be while we are training, we can have some possibility of doing training matches and competitive games to arrive prepared.”

The Brabas' coach spoke about the 'much-anticipated' clash against Gotham FC, from the States, in the Club World Cup semifinal, which will take place at the beginning of 2026, in London, England. In mid-2025, during the break for the Copa América, Corinthians Feminino competed in the Teal Rising Cup, in the USA, and finished as runners-up after losing to the local league leader, Kansas City Current.

“I think facing Gotham is something we've been aiming for a long time, that's why we held a tournament in the United States to understand the difficulty of playing against the North American team. I went to understand the context of what the physical side game brings, and I think we participated well, understanding that it's a game that doesn't allow us to start poorly, as we did against Kansas, and we paid a very quick price. And we will prepare a lot, study the opponent a lot so that at the right moment we can have a great game and come out with a good result,” Piccinato concluded.

With the result, Corinthians reached 30 points in 11 rounds played in the Paulista Championship, maintaining a five-point lead over second-placed Palmeiras.

After facing São Paulo at Parque São Jorge in the Women's Paulista Championship, Corinthians remains focused on the state tournament. On the next November 10th, Monday, at 8 pm (Brasília time), the Brabas will visit Palmeiras at Arena Barueri for the 12th round of the tournament's first phase.
