Corinthians Women’s director hails club, targets World Cup challenge

Right after Corinthians won their sixth Copa Libertadores Femenina title, director Íris Sesso spoke to the press in the mixed zone at Estadio Florencio Sola, in Banfield, Argentina. The executive talked about the club’s future, which will now include competing in the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup at the beginning of 2026.

“Now, with the realization of this long-dreamed-of spot in the World Cup, we will begin strategic planning so that we can strengthen not only the athletes, but also the entire coaching staff and support staff, forming a solid group, as we always have. From now on, I’m already, in fact, discussing some renewals and possible signings. With this spot secured, we’ll be able to make a more concrete plan, and I’m sure the club’s presidency will support me in this process as well.”

She also praised the department’s philosophy. “The philosophy and project of Corinthians have always been winning ones. Since I took over, along with this new staff that arrived — people who believed and earned their place — we have maintained this spirit. Especially the athletes who renewed with us and those who joined this year, which were not few. All were hand-picked and embraced the opportunity, understanding what the Corinthians DNA is.”, she said.

For Íris, the new continental title reinforced the greatness of the project maintained by Corinthians Women: “I am very happy, truly. It’s a huge satisfaction, because I know I have a coaching staff, support staff, and a group of athletes who understood that Corinthians remains great, continues to be a reference, and is still the team to beat.”

She also assured that the club will honor the prizes promised for the title, to avoid what happened with the payments for the 2024 title, which were paid a year late. “What I really want is to make sure the girls are at ease. Yes, there will be a prize. I hope the club can organize and plan itself financially to make the payments, but I am sure this won’t be a problem for us.”, she concluded.
