It was a nightmare scenario for Real Madrid fans last night as they not only lost to AC Milan, but they had to watch Alvaro Morata score the winning goal.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) recall this morning, Morata was greeted by boos last night at the Santiago Bernabeu by the home crowd. He knew full well what kind of environment he would be facing but he simply did what he usually did: hurt his former team.

In recent days and especially yesterday, the Spanish press had shown a lot of fear regarding Morata and they had reason to given that he scored his seventh goal against Los Blancos last night to put Milan 2-1 up. He has now scored more against them than any other team.

Morata was very clear in his analysis of the victory that it was just a step in the right direction for the Rossoneri rather than a destination: “[…] Let’s not set off fireworks, it’s a group stage match. But we are aware of the importance of winning here.”

When Morata scored his goal he gave a ‘V’ symbol with his fingers for the city of Valencia, which is experiencing a moment of great suffering due to the floods that have killed over 200 people. At no point though did the Spaniard lose his composure, and if anything he caused Real to lose theirs.

“Excited? Just right. 300 kilometres from here there is hell and I’m sorry I can’t be there to help,” he said. The 32-year-old had his mind on those in need, while answering the call of Milan at the same time not only with his goal but with his movement to open spaces and work off the ball.
