Rennes are in talks with Queens Park Rangers over Glen Kamara’s departure as the French side look to end the midfielder’s time at the club, with it dubbed a ‘costly fiasco’

Two summers ago, the 70-cap Finland international departed Leeds United, despite the Yorkshire club’s initial reluctance to part ways with him, completing a €10m move to Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.

The move lasted just six months before Kamara was shipped out on loan to Al Shabab for the remainder of the campaign after failing to establish himself in France.

Back with the Breton club last season, Kamara found opportunities hard to come by, managing only 88 minutes of first-team action as he spent much of the campaign on the sidelines.

The experienced midfielder, who is no stranger to the Championship, could now be set for a return to English football, with one club stepping up their pursuit.

According to French daily Le Parisien (via Foot Sur 7), Queens Park Rangers are in negotiations with Rennes over a deal for Kamara, whose sizeable wages have become a significant burden for the French side.

It is claimed talks are progressing well, with Rennes keen to offload the 30-year-old, who earns €150,000 per month despite barely featuring for the club.

That salary is suggested to be ‘a costly fiasco that must be stopped as soon as possible’.

A central figure in the negotiations is QPR head coach Julien Stephan, who is eager to reunite with the Finland international after originally bringing him to Rennes.

Whether Les Rennais agree to a loan move, insist on an obligation to buy or hold out for a permanent transfer is still to be determined.

With 37 Championship appearances to his name, Kamara would bring valuable experience to a QPR side determined to improve on last season’s 15th-place finish.

The west London club have already strengthened their defensive ranks with the arrivals of Tariq Lamptey, Boy Kemper and shot-stopper Calum Ward from Motherwell, and will now hope to add the Finnish midfielder to their squad.

The Hoops begin the new campaign with an EFL Cup clash against Millwall at Loftus Road on 8th August.
