Could Kimmich and Olise face trouble over alleged deliberate bookings?

Speculation that Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise sought deliberate bookings has surfaced after Bayern Munich’s 6-1 win over Atalanta, raising the prospect of disciplinary action. According to BuLi News, the cautions mean both will miss the second leg in Munich but could return for a potential quarter-final.

After Bayern raced into a clear lead in their Champions League round of 16 first leg, both players were shown yellow cards. A possible last-eight tie would be against Manchester City or Real Madrid.

When asked by the German Press Agency, UEFA neither confirmed nor denied whether an investigation would begin. The body said, “Whenever incidents are reported, proceedings are initiated. Should these lead to disciplinary measures, they will be published on the UEFA disciplinary website.”

According to Sport1, further punishment appears unlikely, as UEFA’s regulations allow sanctions only for a clearly deliberate acquisition of a yellow or red card.

In 2019, Sergio Ramos received a two-game ban after publicly admitting a tactical booking for Real Madrid. Kimmich, by contrast, said, “It was unnecessary.” He added, “I was looking for a passing option and wanted to play the ball out. The yellow card is annoying.”
