Madrid’s Mercantile Court No 15 has upheld opposition from LaLiga and the RFEF, lifting precautionary measures granted to Getafe on 30 January. The decision does not alter the squad’s current registration status.

The dispute stems from the frantic final hours of the winter window. As reported by as.com, the judge initially issued ex parte measures to prevent the imminent deadline harming Getafe before hearing LaLiga and the RFEF.

After submissions from the league led by Javier Tebas, the court has reversed its initial stance. The new order finds no urgency to keep the measures, noting that by the deadline Getafe had registered every player it had signed.

LaLiga has also clarified that the initial order never obliged it to accept the salary cap claimed by Getafe, nor to register footballers automatically outside the rules. Its position was endorsed by the Budget Validation Body, the Economic Control Committee, the Social Appeals Committee and, ultimately, the RFEF’s Second Instance UEFA Licence Committee.

In practical terms for the LaLiga EA Sports run-in, nothing changes. Getafe face no points deduction, sanctions or squad limits at this stage.

The real test arrives in the summer, when decisions on reshaping the squad and adjusting the accounts will come to the fore as the club seeks to comply with the strict financial framework reaffirmed by the court. Until then, calm prevails at the Coliseum.
