A battling 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers was enough to see the Sky Blues end their 25-year exodus from the big time, as Bobby Thomas’ late header cancelled out Ryoya Morishita’s effort to spark pandemonium in the away end.

Frank Lampard’s men would go on to seal the title with a resounding 5-1 home victory over Portsmouth, while finishing the season on 95 points from their 46 league games to thoroughly deserve sitting at the summit.

Meanwhile, Ipswich Town needed the final day to secure their Premier League status, but eased back to the big time on that afternoon with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, edging out Millwall by a solitary point.

Kieran McKenna has to be given a huge amount of credit for leading this promotion charge, dealing with such high pressure and expectation to get this club immediately back into the Premier League.

Now, the pair can look forward to top-flight football again, but conscious of the fact they will need to build a playing squad that has enough quality to make up the widening gulf between the Championship and Premier League.

As both the Sky Blues and Tractor Boys prepare for step-up in class, FLW reveals where AI has predicted them to finish in the Premier League standings next term.

AI predicts Coventry City to finish 17th in the Premier League

There’s no doubt Coventry City will be up against it to secure Premier League survival, but AI’s prediction backs them to make a fist of it.

It has predicted the Sky Blues will earn 36 points in their first season back in the top-flight, believing the team will be competitive due to Frank Lampard’s influence on the team, citing the 47-year-old’s vital Premier League experience from stints at both Chelsea and Everton.

Knowing how to navigate the Premier League, AI believes he won’t be star-struck by the bigger clubs and will help the squad keep its composure in big games.

AI has also backed Coventry to earn most of their points on home soil, with the Sky Blues’ form at the CBS Arena paramount to mounting a survival bid. Provided they can recruit a proven top-flight goalscorer and have a watertight backline, Coventry should be able to grind out some precious 1-0 victories against mid-table opposition.

AI, of course, puts all this prediction down to Coventry building the right type of squad to take on the challenge of competing with the very best sides, with recruitment in the summer a big indicator as to how Coventry’s season will unfold.

And after predicting the Midlands outfit to finish on 36 points, it believes it will be enough to save them from the drop, predicting a 17th place finish and another season of Premier League football.

AI predicts Ipswich Town to finish 19th in the Premier League

Unfortunately, AI has not backed Ipswich Town to survive alongside Coventry City, predicting the Tractor Boys will make another instant return to the Championship.

The technology has said Kieran McKenna’s men will finish on 30 points come the end of the 2026-27 season, which would leave them situated in 19th place and yo-yoing between the top two divisions once again.

As found out in their last Premier League stint, AI believes Ipswich won’t be able to transition their possession-based approach against Premier League opposition, but does admit that the team will use its moments a lot better with less of the ball to remain free-flowing in the final third, with both creating and converting chances not an issue.

However, Ipswich’s downfall is backed to be in the defensive department, believing Ipswich won’t have a solid enough backline that is capable of grinding out hard-fought and low-scoring victories when they are needed most.

So, despite Ipswich being predicted to be much more competitive than their last top-flight appearance, they are still expected to come up short in their survival quest and be unable to become established Premier League regulars.
