The Sky Blues' attacking midfielder has international ambitions, but a call-up to the USMNT seems out of the question

Coventry City could be promoted to the Premier League as soon as Friday evening, with them needing just a point away at Blackburn Rovers to secure a top-two place.

And while he's had his fair share of injury issues throughout the year, Jack Rudoni has more than played his part in getting the Sky Blues to the Championship's summit with four games to go, scoring seven and assisting five in just 28 league games.

With a first top-flight campaign in his career on the horizon, the 24-year-old is hopeful that the added exposure that comes with playing in the Premier League could result in making his international bow in the near future.

Despite being born in Carshalton, Rudoni also has American heritage through his grandfather. However, if he were to break into an international setup, it looks like joining teammate Haji Wright in the USMNT isn't something he's able to do.

Jack Rudoni explains the inability to qualify for the USMNT

Speaking to the media ahead of Coventry's trip to Ewood Park on Friday night, Rudoni was questioned about any potential breakthroughs into an international team if he became a Premier League player.

There could have been a situation that led him to represent the USA, having been contacted in the past by the US National Team because Rudoni's grandfather is American, currently living in Monterey, California.

The 24-year-old's father was born there, too, but because he hasn't lived there for the last five years, Rudoni himself doesn't qualify for a US passport.

"No, I don't know if there's a way they hear this or see this and want to try and make something happen. I don't know if there's a way to try and get me a passport," Rudoni said.

"I know I have my grandad, who is fully American. My dad has an American passport and birth certificate, but he hasn't lived there for four or five years, so I don't know if that qualifies.

"You'd think I'd have enough American in me to qualify when my grandad lived there all his life, but I don't know the rules. I don't know if [Donald] Trump's doing anything as well, if that changes stuff, but, yeah, I don't know if someone out there can do something.

"We have tried, and it's not worked. Maybe there's a way to make it happen, maybe not.

"I'm fully focused on my club football right now. I've obviously got American in me. I'm English, so, you know, going to the Premier League, I'd love to break into the England squad, too."

You'd expect more eyes to be on Rudoni next season, as he's one player in Frank Lampard's side who will be involved in Coventry's Premier League return. The 24-year-old has excelled since the former Chelsea stalwart came to the CBS Arena, and likely sees a bit of himself in the attacking midfielder.

Jack Rudoni could be an outsider for an England call-up next season

While Thomas Tuchel will likely not be calling Rudoni up for a place on the plane for the upcoming World Cup in the United States this summer, there may be a high likelihood that the 24-year-old may be on the England boss's mind for a debut at some point next season.

With the two-year gap between this summer's competition and Euro 2028, which England are all but certainly going to qualify for, given their position as one of the four host nations, Tuchel will be afforded more time to experiment with players who haven't been as involved as late.

If Rudoni can make a seamless transition from his excellence in the Championship to the Premier League, there'll definitely be a conversation to be had surrounding a call-up for either friendlies or Euro qualification games, to see how he fares in the set-up.

And, with Frank Lampard stating that the 24-year-old could be a Champions League player in the near future, there wouldn't be much stopping that maiden international cap if the Coventry boss's admissions ring true in the next few years.
