‘Creativity in chaos’: Luis Díaz a major Bayern threat to PSG

Luis Díaz is enjoying the most complete season of his career at Bayern Munich, a constant threat to PSG before Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg at 21:00.

Le Progres notes that the 29-year-old has delivered 26 goals and 21 assists. Those figures quietened doubts over the €70 million Bayern paid Liverpool, after Harry Kane’s €100 million arrival in 2023 and Michael Olise’s €53 million move in 2024.

Vincent Kompany has repeatedly described Díaz as creative in chaos. He and Philipp Lahm also stress the winger’s relentless work, aggression and willingness to track back.

That label has been underlined by a November finish at Union Berlin, when he slid to rescue an overhit pass, beat a defender and scored from a tight angle.

In last week’s first leg at the Parc des Princes he produced a deft cushioned touch from Harry Kane’s long pass, then a feint to unbalance Marquinhos before beating Matveï Safonov, helping Bayern leave Paris only one goal behind. He was among Bayern’s best on the night, with Achraf Hakimi affording him space.

For the return, Hakimi is injured and Díaz should face Warren Zaïre-Emery.

Díaz came closest to lifting the trophy with Liverpool in 2022, reaching the final four months after joining, only to lose 1-0 to Real Madrid at the Stade de France.
