With Champions League elimination now behind them, Inter Milan refocus on two domestic targets and the club can still do better with Chivu than they did in their first season under Conte or Inzaghi.
Gazzetta dello Sport believe Chivu has the tools to achieve something no first-year Inter coach has managed before.
The numbers already tell a remarkable story.
Chivu’s 64 points from 26 games set a new club record for a debut season, surpassing even Antonio Conte, who arrived in the summer of 2019 and won the title at his second attempt.

Conte began with six straight wins but sat on just 54 points at the same stage of his first campaign.
That is the exact same tally AC Milan carry today as Inter’s closest challengers.
The double is now firmly in Chivu’s sights.
No first-year Inter coach has won both the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia in the same season, on the pitch, only Mourinho achieved it, in the treble-winning campaign.
Gazzetta argue the combination has become realistic.
Inter’s remaining Coppa Italia opponents, Como, Atalanta and Lazio, all sit well below them in the league table.
Chivu’s side have beaten every team finishing sixth or lower this season, with the sole exception of August’s slip against Udinese.
Conte, for context, fell at the semi-final stage of the Coppa Italia in 2020, eliminated by Napoli over two legs.
Chivu will hope to go further, and on current evidence, there is little reason to doubt he can.
