Cristiano Ronaldo’s scoring streak has lifted Al-Nassr to the summit, and their Saudi Pro League bid has received a further boost with Karim Benzema sidelined for Al-Hilal.

Al-Hilal said in a statement that medical tests confirmed an adductor injury for the French striker, who requires 10 to 15 days of rehabilitation before returning to group training.

After a brief spell of internal friction over the club’s investment strategy and a boycott of his team, the captain has returned with three successive goals. His penalty against Al-Najma helped seal a 5-0 win that restored first place.

Al-Nassr have 58 points from 23 games, with only one league defeat, and sit two points clear of Al-Ahli.

Al-Hilal’s momentum has stalled at a critical phase, a run of stalemates dropping Simone Inzaghi’s side to third and leaving them short of a clinical edge.

Ronaldo’s 21st of the season took him to 95 Saudi Pro League goals, leaving him five short of the 100-goal club that only four players have reached. He has 965 career goals and needs 35 more to hit 1,000.
