Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed his intention to remain with Al Nassr by signing a new deal after intense speculation the former Manchester United star would join a different club this summer.

Ronaldo, 40, left the Red Devils in November 2022 after a dispute with then-manager Erik ten Hag led the club to terminate the forward’s contract by mutual agreement.

A month later, in December, he joined Al Nassr on a free transfer, becoming the highest paid footballer in the sport’s history.

Since arriving in the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo has scored 93 goals and provided 19 assists in just 105 games as club captain.

He has continued to represent Portugal as captain as well, leading his nation at EURO 2024 and winning this year’s Nations League.

A Seleção defeated their Iberian neighbours Spain on penalties in the final in Munich last night, with Ronaldo scoring an equaliser earlier in the game to make it 2-2.

United stars Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot were also part of Roberto Martinez’s squad with Fernandes converting a spot kick in the shoot out after playing the full 120 minutes.

There has been much speculation Ronaldo was set to depart Al Nassr this summer with his contract in Riyadh expiring.

Reports had suggested the 40-year-old forward may move to a Saudi Pro League rival, with Al-Hilal interested, or another club competing in the Club World Cup.

Brazilian side Botafogo and Mexico’s Monterrey, where former teammate Sergio Ramos plays and was actively pushing for a reunion with Ronaldo, were also interested, while a sensational return to Europe was mooted as well.

But, as Fabrizio Romano relays, Ronaldo has now put an end to speculation on his future lying away from Al Nassr by confirming his intention to remain with the Saudi Pro League side next season.

Tweet: ‘BREAKING: Cristiano Ronaldo confirms plan to stay at Al Nassr by signing new deal. “My future? Basically nothing is gonna change. Staying at Al Nassr? Yea”.’
