Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score as Portugal began their 2026 World Cup with a 1-1 draw against DR Congo on Wednesday. It marked a 10th successive match without a goal at either the World Cup or the Euros, the longest run of his international career.

The 41-year-old led the line in his sixth World Cup. L'Équipe reports that he was largely on the periphery before the interval.

After the break he fashioned openings but failed to hit the target, notably in the 68th and 74th minutes.

His previous goal at a major finals came on 24 November 2022 against Ghana, when he opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 65th minute in Portugal's opening match at the Qatar World Cup, which finished 3-2.

He now plays for Al-Nassr, having previously represented Sporting, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
