Cruzeiro climb to seventh as Matheus Pereira nets second half winner | OneFootball

Cruzeiro beat Coritiba 1-0 at Couto Pereira, rising from 13th to seventh in the Brasileirão.

Coxa carried a threat before the break, with Otávio denying Lucas Ronier and Josué from range, while Matheus Pereira drew an early stop from Pedro Morisco.

In the 47th minute William fired narrowly wide from the right as Cruzeiro upped the tempo. Morisco then kept Coxa level, parrying Jonathan Jesus from close range (56.).

Pereira decided it (66.), guiding a left-footed finish into the bottom left after Gerson slipped him through the middle.

Gerson later departed injured and was replaced by Matheus Henrique (69.).

Six minutes were added, and Coxa forced back-to-back corners in the closing stages, but Cruzeiro's back line stood firm.

Coxa finished with 19 attempts, hitting the target twice. Cruzeiro produced 20 attempts and four on target.
