'He is disgusting. If he were here now, we would fight,' Wagner said, speaking on the 7TV podcast about Gabigol.

Gabigol spent one season with Cruzeiro in 2025 after leaving Flamengo when his contract was not renewed, and was greeted warmly by supporters on arrival.

Under coach Leonardo Jardim he failed to nail down a starting place, registering 13 goals and four assists.

The flashpoint for his exit was a missed penalty in the Copa do Brasil semi-final against Corinthians at Neo Química.

He is currently on loan at Santos and remains under contract with Cruzeiro until the end of 2028. If the Vila Belmiro club do not trigger their option to buy, he will return to Belo Horizonte at the end of the 2026 season.

Gabigol is a modern icon at Flamengo, having scored both goals in the 2019 Libertadores final against River Plate, and amassed titles and records with the Rio club.
