Manchester United made enquiries for Crysencio Summerville, and the Red Devils were the Dutchman’s initial preferred option, according to The Athletic.

However, a move to Old Trafford was contingent on them selling Marcus Rashford, and the Englishman’s £40 million exit clause was not activated before it expired.

It left Summerville’s representatives exploring other options, and he is now set to join Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

Tottenham Hotspur also expressed interest in Summerville, but he had no desire to join them out of respect for West Ham United.

His former teammate Mateus Fernandes had earlier made that short trip across London to join Spurs a couple of weeks ago.

However, Summerville always wanted to leave the Hammers amicably following their relegation to the Championship.

The huge financial offer in Saudi was too lucrative for the Netherlands international to turn down.

He is expected to earn around £15m per year at Al Hilal, with West Ham agreeing to sell him in a £65m deal.

The former Leeds United star was earning less than £50,000 per week with the Hammers but now gets to make around £300,000 weekly going forward.

He could have been a great addition to either Spurs’ or the Red Devils’ attack, but neither club would have been able to offer him what the Saudis have given him.

Remaining with West Ham was not an option for Summerville, and he will now look to prove himself in the Middle East after joining the plethora of stars in Saudi.
