Crystal Palace have made contact with Leicester City over a potential deal for Bilal El Khannouss.
The Morocco international has been on the radar of several Premier League clubs following Leicester’s relegation.
Palace’s interest is longstanding but has now progressed to club-to-club discussions.
An official offer has not yet been submitted, though it is understood the 21-year-old would be open to the move.
Any deal may hinge on the future of Eberechi Eze, who is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs are pushing to sign the England international but have yet to reach an agreement with Palace.
If Eze leaves, El Khannouss is viewed as a leading replacement option for Oliver Glasner’s side.
The attacking midfielder made an immediate impact in Leicester’s first Championship match last weekend, assisting both goals in a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
He joined the Foxes from Genk last summer for £19 million and signed a four-year deal until 2028.
Despite Leicester’s struggles, El Khannouss impressed in his first year in England, registering two goals and three assists in 32 Premier League appearances.
His performances drew praise for creativity, close control, and the ability to break lines in tight spaces.
Former scout Mick Brown described him as ‘one of Leicester’s shining lights’ and predicted heavy competition for his signature.
He said Palace would likely step up their pursuit if Eze departs Selhurst Park.
Leeds United have also been linked with the Moroccan, while Leicester face a battle to convince him to stay in the Championship.
El Khannouss’ £30 million release clause has now expired, giving Leicester greater control in negotiations.
Even so, the club may be forced into a sale to raise funds after relegation.
Selling the midfielder would be a financial boost but a sporting setback, given his importance in their push for promotion.
Leicester manager Marti Cifuentes has started him in key matches and sees him as central to the team’s plans.
Palace, meanwhile, are weighing up several options to strengthen their attack, with El Khannouss high on the list.
The final weeks of the window are expected to determine both his future and Eze’s, with the two situations closely tied.
With interest from top-flight clubs and Leicester’s financial pressures, the next fortnight could prove decisive.
