Crystal Palace are readying a fresh bid for Middlesbrough loanee Ben Doak in a bid to lure him from parent club Liverpool.

According to Alan Nixon, the Eagles are prepared to pay up to £20 million to secure the Scotland international this January transfer window.

Doak is currently on loan with Boro, where he has earned a lot of plaudits for his performances this season.

The 19-year-old has contributed two goals and six assists from 21 appearances in the Championship for Middlesbrough since arriving from Anfield in the summer.

It was previously reported by Alan Nixon that Palace made an offer to Liverpool for the winger worth £15 million.

However, this was turned down, with it being claimed by The Northern Echo that the Reds’ valuation of the player is closer to £30 million.

Alex Crook has also reported that Ipswich Town are in the mix to sign Doak this winter, should Liverpool become open to a permanent sale.

It is now understood that a £20 million offer is being prepared by Palace, which remains below Liverpool’s valuation.

It is believed that Liverpool are happy with Doak’s progress at Middlesbrough and have no intention of cashing in on him at this time, but a significant offer could persuade them otherwise.

Doak’s impressive performances in Michael Carrick’s side have led to this speculation, but Boro will be keen to see him remain with the club for the second half of the campaign.

Middlesbrough are currently chasing promotion to the Premier League this season, with the team firmly in the mix for a top six finish.

Doak has been key to their results so far this term, and has earned a lot of praise for his impact on the team.

Boro are currently fifth in the Championship table after 26 games played, 11 points adrift of the automatic promotion places after just one win in their last five fixtures.

While Doak’s been a great signing for the club, this is also the downside of bringing in a talented youngster on loan.

Boro have no real control in this situation, and are at the mercy of Liverpool’s decision.

But Doak remaining at the Riverside for the rest of the season does seem the most sensible outcome, which Middlesbrough will be hoping stays the case.

While Liverpool could cash in now, they would also be losing a really talented academy prospect that could become a first team regular, which they will surely look to avoid despite the big sums being offered right now.
