Crystal Palace are set to offer Jean-Philippe Mateta a new deal as they bid to keep the striker at Selhurst Park, according to Sky Sports.

“There is no agreement yet, but Palace remain calm about the situation.”

The Frenchman has been terrific for the Eagles since joining the South London outfit, netting 54 goals in 171 outings.

The Crystal Palace ace has bagged six goals in 11 appearances this term, carrying on his form from towards the end of last season.

Mateta, who reportedly earns £62,500 per week, has attracted suitors with his performances. “Palace are aware of growing interest in Mateta.”

The club is eager to tie him down to a new deal.

His current deal expires in 2027, and clubs will be sniffing around the 28-year-old, hoping to snap him up this summer if there is an opportunity.

The report also states that the Eagles are aware of interest in other players, such as Daniel Munoz, Adam Wharton, and Marc Guehi.

Crystal Palace want Mateta to commit his future, but the longer negotiations drag on, the more complicated the situation becomes.

The Eagles know the dynamic shifts once a player enters the final 12 months of his deal, and they will not want him edging closer to that point without an extension in place.

If no agreement is reached by the summer, the club could be forced into cashing in to avoid the risk of him entering the final year and potentially walking away for free.

Losing him would be more than a numbers problem. Mateta has become the focal point of Palace’s attack, and replacing the subtlety of his link-up play is no small task.

His understanding with Ismaila Sarr, combinations with Daniel Munoz down the right, and ability to bring others into the game are key for the South London club.

Finding another striker who offers that blend would be extremely tough.
