Eagles could make history with maiden European crown

Crystal Palace take on Rayo Vallecano in their first ever European final on Wednesday.

The Eagles are hot favourites to lfit the Europa Conference League, with holders Chelsea missing out entirely on continental competition after defeat by Sunderland on the last day of the Premier League campaign.

Oliver Glasner kept most of his stars in reserve at Selhurst Park on Sunday, but he called them into action in the dying embers, with Jean-Philippe Mateta notching what would prove to be just a consolation as the south Londoners’ league season ended in defeat.

Managed by Inigo Perez, they saw off BlueCo side Strasbourg in the last four to book their place in Leipzig.

For the Eagles, there are five injury concerns.

The biggest are defender Chris Richards, who Glasner admitted was “50-50” for the Conference League final after suffering two torn ligaments in his ankle against Brentford, and Adam Wharton, who limped off at the weekend.

The England midfielder has a “sore ankle”, according to his manager, and there is hope that he will feature in Germany.

Eddie Nketiah is out for the season with a hamstring problem, while Borna Sosa is another who is touch-and-go for this game after missing the Arsenal defeat.

Cheick Doucoure is also out after another injury-hit campaign.
