Crystal Palace’s Walter Benitez keen on OGC Nice return? | OneFootball

Walter Benitez (33) spent six years at OGC Nice (2016-2022). In that time, he racked up 188 appearances for Le Gym, more than at any other club during his career. The Argentina international may now be keen on a return to the Ligue 1 club as he described the city of Nice as his “home”. 

Benitez joined Crystal Palace from PSV Eindhoven last summer, however, as he would have been aware upon joining, he played a back-up role. As a result, the 33-year-old was limited to just eight appearances across the season. He played just once in the Premier League.

Under contract until 2028, he may nonetheless have his sights set on a return to Les Aiglons. The goalkeeper was present at Villa Massena on Thursday for an event to celebrate Dante’s time at the club. The Brazilian retired at the end of the season and will now head off to manage Bayern Munich’s U23s. 

Jean-Pierre Rivere, who departs his role as co-president, alongside Maurice Cohen, who remains in the role, said, “Maurice, we spoke with Walter a few months ago, and I can tell you one thing: this boy dreams of coming back to play for OGC Nice. It’s up to you now!”

Nice-Matin notes that Benitez was a little surprised by the public declaration, but responded, “It’s true that, here, I feel at home.”
