Spanish refereeing faces a major shake-up, with the Technical Committee of Referees set to confirm promotions and relegations on Monday.

Mundo Deportivo reports that international officials Guillermo Cuadra Fernández and Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz are to be demoted to Segunda. The report adds that Cuadra Fernández will step away from on-field refereeing to work in VAR.

Cuadra Fernández’s season included a serious mistake involving Valencia. He did not award a penalty for what appeared a clear elbow to Hugo Duro’s nose by Carmona inside the box in minute 24 of Valencia v Sevilla on matchday 15 at Mestalla.

Galech Azpeteguia and Guzmán Mansilla also face relegation after only one season in the top flight.

The leading candidates to be promoted are the Basque Joan Ander González and the Aragonese Carlos Muñiz Muñoz.
