Days after Neymar delivered what was viewed as an over-the-top dressing-down on Saturday, Santos faced another flashpoint as Willian Arão and coach Cuca clashed in the dressing room after Tuesday’s Copa Sudamericana game with Universidad Central da Venezuela.

UOL reports that the midfielder was unhappy at being substituted at half-time, and a post-match exchange escalated when Cuca asked whether anyone wished to speak and named Arão.

Cuca then told any dissatisfied players to leave, prompting Arão to depart Vila Belmiro before his team-mates. Hours later he moved to cool the situation, and on Wednesday, a scheduled day off, the pair spoke by phone and settled it.

Both accepted tempers had flared and the matter was resolved. Arão trained as normal on Thursday morning at CT Rei Pelé.

The club will not comment on the incident. Santos returned to work on Thursday to begin preparations for Remo in the Copa do Brasil round of 16, with those who featured on Tuesday, including Arão, given lighter technical and physical sessions. Training continues on Friday.
