Marc Cucurella has honoured his pledge, getting a tattoo of Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente on his arm on Tuesday, a week after La Roja’s second world title. According to Le Progres, the Spanish left-back kept the promise he made before the tournament.
Before the North American World Cup kicked off, the then Chelsea defender said he would have his manager’s face inked if Spain won, describing it as a good keepsake and pondering the placement.
Spain, the reigning European champions, began with a sluggish 0-0 against Cape Verde, then grew into the competition. They beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final to claim a second world crown after 2010.
Cucurella moved to Real Madrid in the meantime and came to symbolise the team’s defensive steel. Spain conceded only one goal across the tournament, against Belgium in the quarter-finals, a 2-1 win.
The 28-year-old’s new artwork shows de la Fuente’s face and torso, alongside the Jules Rimet trophy.
