Globo.com reports that Cuiabá have confirmed the signing of 29-year-old centre-back João Basso as a reinforcement for the remainder of the season.
The defender arrives from Santos, where he featured in two Campeonato Brasileiro matches this year, and he won the 2024 Série B title with the club.
Standing 1.87m, he fills the spot vacated by Edson Rogério, who made five appearances for Cuiabá. The current defensive options are Alan Empereur, who is recovering from injury, plus Luis Soares, Gabriel Knesowitch and Vitor Mendes. In 2026, Cuiabá are in Série B and the Copa Centro-Oeste.
A product of Paraná Clube’s academy, Basso began his senior career in 2015. He made 21 appearances the following season before moving to Europe.
He spent seven seasons in Portugal with Estoril Praia, Arouca and Real SC. He returned to Brazil in 2023 to play for Santos, had a brief spell with Estoril in 2024, and remained contracted to Santos across the last two seasons before agreeing to join Cuiabá.
