Vasco have agreed a deal to sign left-back Cuiabano, who arrived in Rio early on Thursday to finalise a loan until the end of the year, with an option to buy.
The club said in a statement that it has reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for his signing. He will undergo medical tests and complete the formalities before an official announcement.
On arrival he said he is happy to be at Vasco and feels able to play Sunday’s Carioca clássico against Botafogo, his former club. He noted he has had two games for Forest’s under-21s and has been training, and that he would speak with Diniz because the final call is his.
Vasco’s interest dates back to early January. Despite Lucas Piton being first choice at left-back, the hierarchy wanted another option for the rest of the campaign.
A Grêmio academy graduate who caught the eye at Botafogo, Cuiabano is contracted to Nottingham Forest but has played little in England. His desire to return to Brazil helped the talks progress. He added that his aim is a Brazil call-up and that he had no official offers from elsewhere.
