Once criticised, Samuel Dahl and Andreas Schjelderup have become a driving force on Benfica’s left, bringing stability after a patchy spell. According to Glorioso 1904, the duo now start consistently and show no signs of slowing.
Dahl is currently the most used player in the squad, on 3877 minutes. With Rafa Obrador gone, he has no direct rival, while José Neto is still emerging and Sidny Lopes Cabral has not featured lately.
In attack, Schjelderup is enjoying more minutes and improved output, a regular in the starting line-up after an uneven opening to the season. José Mourinho has highlighted his progress and the contrast with his early form.
Schjelderup was close to joining Club Brugge, a move that ultimately did not happen.
Elsewhere the side is less settled. Franjo Ivanovic is gaining prominence, while Vangelis Pavlidis is on a barren run. Midfield and the right flank have seen frequent changes.
Options for the left have receded. Rafa Silva has been used in central areas, Bruma is injured, and others once tried there have been redeployed.
