Rafael Leao is increasingly likely to be sold by Milan this summer according to various reports in Italy, and one statistic proves exactly why the Rossoneri are looking to cut ties with the Portugal international.
It has been a season of ups and downs for the Rossoneri, who had been in second place for large chunks of the 2025-26 season, but then hit a run of dreadful form in April that saw them pick up just four points from six matches and almost saw them drop out of the Serie A top four.
Their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League received a big boost when they defeated Genoa 2-1 away from home in the absence of the suspended Leao. With Juventus losing 2-0 at home to Fiorentina, the Rossoneri now have a two-point buffer between themselves and fifth place heading into the final round of league fixtures next weekend.
The fact that the Rossoneri claimed victory without Leao on Sunday paints a damning picture for the 26-year-old.

Leao has featured in 28 of Milan’s 37 Serie A matches this season. Of the nine games he has not appeared in, the team have gone on to win seven, draw one and lose one, which gives them an average of 2.44 points per game when Leao has not featured.
2.44 points per game over the course of a full 38-game season comes to around 92 points, which would have been enough to win the league title in four of the last five Serie A seasons. For comparison, Inter have won the Scudetto with a points average of 2.32 per game in 2025-26.
Milan are currently averaging 1.71 points per game when Leao does feature in the side. Over the course of a full season, that comes to just shy of 65 points, which, in 2025-26, would have Milan in seventh place and healing for Conference League football.
