After more than two decades at Real Madrid - with a brief spell away along the way - Dani Carvajal is set to bring his long association with the club to an end.
The right-back, whose contract is due to expire, will not renew at the Bernabéu and is now expected to move on as a free agent.
Carvajal’s time in Madrid has been nothing short of hugely successful. Across 450 appearances, he has collected 26 trophies, including six Champions League titles, five UEFA Super Cups, five Club World Cups, four La Liga crowns, four Spanish Super Cups and two Copa del Rey wins.
Beyond the silverware, Carvajal also spent periods wearing the captain’s armband and was a regular fixture in the side for many years. In more recent seasons, however, a series of serious injuries have taken their toll and limited his involvement.
Interestingly, aside from Real Madrid - and their development sides - the only other club Carvajal has represented is Bayer Leverkusen. His journey in Madrid actually began back in 2002 when he joined the academy, before a move to Germany saw him make his top-flight debut for Leverkusen in 2012. He returned to Real Madrid a year later to begin his senior career with the first team.
On the international stage, Carvajal has earned 52 caps for Spain, winning both the European Championship and the Nations League during his time with the national side.
