Daniel Farke says Leeds United’s policy of targeting prime-age recruits has underpinned their recent upturn, with the side unbeaten in six. According to Leeds Live, the head coach links improved resilience to summer business.
Saturday’s 3-0 victory at Wolves followed a first league win at Manchester United for 45 years. The results left Leeds eight points clear of the bottom three, aided by Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.
All 10 summer recruits were aged 26 to 28, with 21-year-old January arrival Facundo Buonanotte the sole outlier. They also stitched together back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time last week.
Farke says the plan for a first season back was to add maturity rather than projects, and that a newly promoted side must grow into the division. He believes game management is improving, with the team better at protecting leads and defending under pressure.
Leeds visit Bournemouth on Wednesday aiming to win consecutive away games for the first time this season, with the hosts unbeaten in 13 league matches. An FA Cup semi-final for the first time in 39 years follows on Sunday against Chelsea at Wembley, though Farke maintains the focus is fixed on Bournemouth.
