Daniel Farke could face a fight to keep Karl Darlow this summer, with The Athletic reporting that Manchester United are considering an approach as the goalkeeper’s Leeds contract runs down.
Darlow, 35, made 22 Premier League appearances last season after stepping in for Lucas Perri, impressing with a series of assured displays and earning a save of the season nomination. He has also established himself as Wales number one under Craig Bellamy.
United are thought to be seeking depth in goal, with back-up to Senne Lammens, Altay Bayindir, expected to depart. Darlow’s homegrown status is expected to boost interest.
Asked in late April about his first-choice goalkeeper, with Illan Meslier and Alex Cairns also out of contract, Farke kept talks under wraps but hinted at his regard for Darlow, inviting observers to read between the lines.
Outside interest adds uncertainty, yet the report added that Elland Road decision-makers want to keep the Welsh international and are looking to offer new terms.
Leeds extended captain Ethan Ampadu’s deal last week, a four-year contract announced by chairman Parag Marathe, who said it was important for him and Farke to keep the core of the squad where possible.
