According to Leeds Live, Daniel Farke has welcomed Daniel James back into Leeds United’s match-day squad and said Facundo Buonanotte took his omission in the right way.

James returned to the 20 for the 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest, making his first appearance since 29 November when he replaced Brenden Aaronson with 12 minutes remaining.

Farke hopes the Wales international can now build towards a stronger finish after a difficult campaign. He said James has been in team training for two weeks after eight or nine weeks out. Given an on-off spell with injuries, including at the end of last season, he added that players normally need time.

He called James experienced and diligent in rehab, arriving back in good shape. He looked sharp in training, which underpinned his selection. After coming on, his pace produced two or three dangerous situations, and Farke wants him to stay fit to show his best.

James’ return displaced Buonanotte, who had been a substitute in the previous two matches and might not be involved against former loan club Chelsea.

The Argentine began the season at Stamford Bridge but played only 45 minutes of Premier League football, after which Brighton recalled and reallocated him.

Farke said the youngster trained well in a smaller group on Saturday, and after a lighter tactical session yesterday he reacted as expected.
