Danilho Doekhi has been named Union Berlin’s player of the season for 2025-26 after a commanding campaign at the heart of defence.
According to BuLi News, the selection came after he secured six of 10 votes from the outlet’s writers. As has become typical for Union, they stayed clear of relegation worries but perhaps lacked the individual quality to push for Europe.
His standout display arrived on Matchday 10 in a 2-2 draw with future champions Bayern Munich. An early strike was ruled out, yet he soon put Union ahead, finishing right-footed from a Janik Haberer corner, before a sensational Luis Díaz effort levelled before the break.
On 83 minutes another set piece caused chaos and Doekhi guided in after a tame Harry Kane clearance. Kane then headed in during injury time to deny the Köpenick club a famous win, despite Doekhi recording 100% duel success.
At 27 he played every minute of all 34 league matches, underpinning seven clean sheets and ranking seventh for duels won with 341 and twelfth for distance covered at 359.7km. He also finished joint-second in Union’s scoring charts with five, one behind Oliver Burke.
Honourable mentions went to Andrej Ilic, who earned two nominations with five goals and nine assists. Leopold Querfeld received one vote after 31 appearances and the league’s eighth-best duels tally with 333, while Rani Khedira added one vote with five goals and an assist.
The only disappointment for Union is that a summer exit for Doekhi is likely.
