Rangers managerial target Danny Rohl already has his backroom team lined up and is planning to bring a former Ibrox hero with him to win over fans if he is appointed, according to the Scottish Sun.
The 36-year-old has emerged as the front-runner to succeed Russell Martin after Steven Gerrard pulled out of the race to become the next Rangers manager.
Rohl is preparing his team and is ready to hit the ground running at the Ibrox club if the job becomes his, but he is not the only manager on their radar.
The Rangers board want to get their next managerial appointment right, having been forced to start looking for a fifth permanent boss in just under three years.
Rohl fits the bill, given the job he did in the English Championship with Sheffield Wednesday. It will be intriguing to see who they appoint.
The identity of the former Rangers player the German wants to include in his coaching crew is unknown, but it could prove to be a smart move.
Former Gers striker Jermain Defoe recently admitted that he would not hesitate to return in a coaching role if given the chance, having worked with Gerrard.
The 43-year-old worked as a coach during the closing months of his three-season Rangers career, forming part of the four-man caretaker team that led the team following Gerrard’s departure.
Defoe has since gained more coaching experience, having worked as Tottenham Hotspur’s under-18s coach for two years.
