Danny Welbeck signs for Chelsea, could be first over 30 to play in over two years | OneFootball

Chelsea have signed Danny Welbeck from Brighton on Saturday on a two-year contract to 2028, and the 35-year-old could become the club’s first over 30 to feature in more than two years.

The club said in a statement that he has joined for an undisclosed fee.

The Manchester United academy graduate triggered a one-year extension with Brighton in March 2026, keeping him under contract until June 2027.

An England international, Welbeck has 42 caps and 16 goals.

Since May 2024, when Thiago Silva last appeared, no Chelsea player older than 30 has played a minute, a 123-game run in all competitions that his arrival could end.
