It has been a while since Ronald Araujo opted for an indefinite leave from football, as he sought to recover from mental health issues after being subjected to intense criticism over his performance against Chelsea.
The Uruguayan international has been out of action for about three weeks now, during which he has missed five matches.
Araujo’s time on the sidelines has already forced Hansi Flick to make many adjustments, including fielding Gerard Martin at centre-back, as he had virtually no clarity on Araujo’s return window.
However, as reported by MARCA, Araujo has set a potential return date as he looks to soon end his mental health leave.
During his time away from Barcelona, the Uruguayan notably made a trip to Israel. A devout Christian, the defender tried to find solace in the holy land, in the hope of rediscovering himself.

Araujo’s trip to Israel ended last week, and as per the report, the player has set January 3, 2026, as a potential return date.
The report adds that the trip to Israel has helped Araujo greatly and is progressing well, both mentally and physically.
It appears Araujo is now keen on making himself available for the derby against Espanyol on January 3. Although it remains a doubt whether he will start, he wants to be fit for the clash.
Between now and then, however, Araujo plans to spend the Christmas holiday in Uruguay and will return to training on December 29.
This will be the first time the player will train with the rest of his teammates since the Chelsea debacle earlier this season.
Although his performances have left a lot to be desired this season, Flick still considers Araujo’s return important for the team.
