Date set for Barcelona wonderkid’s renewal until 2029 with agreement in place | OneFootball

Marc Bernal appeared set to play a critical role for FC Barcelona this season until an ACL injury in only his third first-team appearance put an early end to his campaign.

The 17-year-old wonderkid enjoyed a brilliant pre-season under Hansi Flick and had made a big impression in the three games that he played before injury struck.

Bernal now remains focused on recovering from the serious knee injury he suffered at the beginning of the season. His rehabilitation is progressing well, and he is expected to return fully fit for the start of the next pre-season.

Renewal next month

Now, SPORT reports that confidence in his future is high with Barcelona. Indeed, Flick is determined to have him back in the first-team squad, convinced of his potential to become a key player for the club.

Barcelona have also shown their commitment towards the development of the La Masia gem. A renewal agreement is in place until 2029. Although the deal was finalised in September, the signing has been delayed.

Bernal preferred to complete the contract when he reached the final stage of his recovery, and both parties have now agreed that the formal signing will take place when he turns 18 on 26 May.

The contract will be a first-team deal, including a very high release clause, following the model used for other promising players at the club.

Everything is agreed and ready, with the announcement expected to be timed for maximum impact.

Bernal is seen as the long-term pivot for Barcelona’s future. Manager Flick has personally assured the player that there is no need to rush his recovery and that his place in the squad remains secure.
