Sunderland are set for a major off-field reshuffle this summer, with Chief Business Officer David Bruce expected to depart, Sunderland Echo understands.
Bruce arrived in July 2023 as Chief Brand and Commercial Officer, then stepped up to Chief Business Officer a year later. He helped deliver the switch to hummel as kit partner and outsourced retail operations to Fanatics.
His work, including the 'Til The End campaign, drew praise from supporters. The club are understood to be shifting strategy to grow commercial revenues and accelerate wider growth.
A new CEO is expected to be appointed this summer, tasked with increasing income to strengthen the club’s position in the Premier League. Until then, non-executive director Tom Burwell will serve as interim CEO.
Recent changes include Mike Papadimitriou becoming Chief Financial Officer last September and Burwell’s addition to the board. Both have close links to Bia Sports Group, the vehicle through which Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori manage their sporting investments.
The club are also recruiting a Chief Revenue Officer after Ashley Peden left his role as Chief Commercial Officer in January. Scott McCubbin, who also works with Bia Sports Group, has taken the revenue remit on an interim basis.
