HOUSTON - The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup continued as Canada earned a 2-nil win against El Salvador in Group B on Tuesday at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, USA.

El Salvador was left with a man down on the field in the 35’, when Santos Ortíz was sent off after being shown a second yellow card.

Canada had an opportunity to open the scoring from the penalty spot in the 45’+6’, but the attempt from Jonathan David to the bottom right corner was saved by El Salvador’s goalkeeper Mario González.

La Selecta had to complete the remainder of the match with nine players after Jairo Henríquez was shown a red card in the 45’+9’.

Jonathan David found the breakthrough for The Reds in the 53’, receiving a ball from Mathieu Choinière on the left end of the box before scoring at the far post. The goal was the first for David this 2025 edition and his seventh overall in the Gold Cup.

Tajon Buchanan doubled the lead for Canada in the 56’ with his third goal of the campaign. Niko Sigur provided the assist on the play.

With the win, Canada reached seven points to claim the top spot in Group B unbeaten with a 2-1-0 record. The Reds will face Guatemala in the Quarterfinals.

El Salvador concluded its participation in the 2025 edition with a 0-1-2 record.
