David Guion, formerly of Reims and Bordeaux, will take charge of Clermont in Ligue 2 after being selected by the club’s incoming leadership.
Foot National and La Montagne report he has agreed a two-year contract.
The group set to assume control presented its plan to the DNCG on Tuesday. Stéphane Tessier, formerly chief executive at Saint-Étienne and Marseille, is to buy Ahmet Schaefer’s shares via ABL Finance.
Guion, a free agent since leaving Troyes in summer 2024, is expected to arrive without backroom staff. He had been in competition with Laurent Batlles, who also held talks with the future hierarchy, including Karim Fradin, the former Chamois Niortais president due to become director of football.
Players are due at the training ground on Wednesday to collect kit and begin medical tests. On-pitch work is scheduled to start on Monday 29 June.
